Mental Health vs. Social Media

This project focused on social media and how it can affect mental health. I have struggled with my own mental health, so it was important for me to create something that anyone would want to look at while raising awareness. I created the digital illustration and the graphics for these infographics so that the information and the digital painting share a narrative.

The illustration can be interpreted in more than one way. The first is that someone is pulling away from social activities and falling into a reclusive state, with only their phone linking them to the outside world. The second is that someone is feeling left out due to social media. Both can take a toll on a person’s mental well-being.

I created two infographics, one depicting statistics on how many young people are using social media, and its dangers. The second shows what can improve if you take a step back, while also showing that there are benefits to using social media.

My illustration for this project was included in the Illustrating Health exhibition at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum, and was on display until October of 2023. Read more about the exhibition at this link.
